Mido

In loving memory of Mido Bonne, 1999?-12/26/2009

I adopted Mido (pronounced “me-dough”) from Joliet Jr. College’s vet tech program on 5/7/02; at the time they estimated that she was 2-3 years old. I am so glad that she was the last animal left to be adopted that semester because I immediately fell in love with her from the moment I saw her sitting all alone on a gurney in an exam room.
Mido was very spunky, playful and affectionate, and she loved to sit in my mom’s lap for hours, purring away. She also loved to sleep out on our screen porch for hours and hours, come rain or shine. Although she was a small cat, she never allowed our big male cats to get the best of her!

In October, 2009, my mom discovered a hard lump near one of Mido’s nipples. She was diagnosed with right caudal mammary gland masses and adenocarcinoma that very quickly spread to her lungs. Although Mido fought the cancer as best she could, tolerating a major surgery and several chemotherapy sessions, as the cancer rapidly progressed, it became more and more difficult for her to breathe.
In the early hours of December 26th, 2009, I knew that, although it was a very difficult decision to make, I was prepared to do what was right for my poor, suffering little girl, and later that morning, we took her to our vet, where she was put to sleep. I will always hold very loving memories of my dear little Midi-Moo in my heart—she was the world’s sweetest kitty.

Please listen to the vets when they tell you to spay/neuter your animals as young as possible. My little Mido never had a chance—whoever owned her before she went into the vet tech program at my school did not have her spayed—doing so before her first cycle in heat would have reduced her chances of getting mammary cancer by as much as 95% and she could have happily lived many years longer than her nine short years here on earth. We love and dearly miss you, Midi-moo!
